Wasp Men and Women Both Victorious

After the well-deserved holiday break, both the men and women's basketball teams from Wasatch High School were back in action on Wednesday night.  The boys, hosted Payson in The Nest and defeated the Lions 45-33 and the gals played Spanish Fork on the road and came away with a 65-55 victory.

In the gentlemen's game, defense was the key.  The black and gold held it's opponent under double digit figures in all four quarters.  No one individual player stood out for Wasatch, but they had eight players score on the night, which has become a theme for them so far this season.  Gordon Jackson and Jeff Murdock led the way for the Wasps with nine points each, and Chris Johnson contributed eight points.

The ladies, taking a 7-3 record down the mountain to begin their second half of the season, were once again led by senior standout Rebecca MaWhinney as she put in 17 points for the Lady Wasps.  The high scoring contest saw Wasatch come out on top after the first three quarters, outscoring the Dons 22-13 in the second quarter alone.  Senior Renee Fagg added 12 points and fellow classmate Riley Gagon had a nice game with 10 points of her own.  All three seniors grabbed eight rebounds each for the Wasps.

Both squads for Wasatch open Region X play on Friday night against rival Park City.  The boys play host and the ladies are again on the road.  Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 P.M.
